Brazilian pastor dies watching 'The Passion of The Christ'

Jose Geraldo Soares, a Brazilian pastor who booked two movie theaters to watch the film 'The Passion of The Christ' with his church congregation and family, died of an apparent heart attack while he was watching the film.

Halfway through the movie, the pastor's wife noticed her husband was sleeping. When she tried to wake her husband he didn't respond. When a doctor, who was also watching the movie, tried to help the pastor, he noticed the man was already dead.


According to a family friend, Jose was calmly watching the movie sitting next to his wife.

Pastor Jose is the second person who died while watching 'The Passion of The Christ'. Last month a 56-year-old American woman passed out during the scene in which Jezus Christ is cuicified. She died in hospital a few hours later after suffering a heart attack.

Earlier, the film was praised by Catholic leaders in Brazil, who said 'The Passion of The Christ' was a faithful depiction of accurate events in the Bible. After the death of the Brazilian pastor, the movie has been criticized by many for the violence and its bloody portrayal of Jesus in the last 12 hours of his life.
