Pickleball Passion: Breaking Records and Inspiring Generosity

Four pickleball enthusiasts in Texas broke the Guinness World Record by playing 36 consecutive hours of matches, calling themselves The Pickle Breakers.

The team raised over $18,000 for the Taylor's Gift Foundation, a charity supporting organ donation. The attempt must still be reviewed and approved by the record-keeping organization, but the Pickle Breakers played for longer than the previous record holders from Britain.

"They're tired. It's been a long night," said Mark Olson, husband of one of the team members, Geneva Olson. The cause of organ donation is close to Geneva's heart, and she wanted to inspire her daughters by breaking the world record. With four daughters, Geneva wanted to show them that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.

The Pickle Breakers -- Chong Kim, Jaret Petras, Laura Maala, and Geneva Olson -- began their attempt at 6 a.m. local time on Saturday at Pickler Universe in Carrollton. The current record is held by a group who played for 34 hours, 5 minutes and 55 seconds in September 2024. The Pickle Breakers surpassed this time and played for 36 hours straight, aiming to secure their place in the Guinness World Records.

"It was a tough challenge, but we believed in ourselves," said Laura Maala after the attempt. The team's determination and passion for pickleball pushed them through the long hours of playing. The effort not only broke a world record but also raised funds for a meaningful cause in organ donation.

"I am so proud of Geneva and the team for their incredible achievement," Mark Olson expressed his admiration for his wife and her teammates. The Pickle Breakers' commitment to breaking the world record while supporting a charitable cause showcases their dedication and perseverance in the sport of pickleball.

Overall, the Pickle Breakers' success in breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon playing pickleball reflects not only their skill and endurance but also their generosity in supporting organ donation. By inspiring others and showcasing their passion for the sport, the team has left a lasting impact on the pickleball community.
