Penguin's Flight Fiasco: How a South African Helicopter Crash Was Caused by an Unlikely Passenger
A penguin caused a helicopter crash in South Africa by interfering with the controls. Authorities reported that the penguin, placed in a cardboard box, slid off a passenger's lap during take-off, causing the helicopter to roll and crash. Thankfully, no one, including the penguin, was injured in the incident.
"The pilot conducted a risk assessment of the flight; however, he omitted to include the carriage (transportation) of the penguin on-board," the report said. The passenger in the front seat lost his grip on the box containing the penguin, leading to the crash. The report emphasized the lack of secure containment for the penguin as the root cause of the dangerous situation.
